Clearwater Golf Club

Course Type: Real Course, 18 holes, New Zealand, ver. 2.0

Clearwater Golf Club is located fifteen minutes drive from Christchurch central city and seven minutes from Christchurch International Airport. Central to the original Clearwater Resort development is the magnificent 18-hole championship golf course designed by Darby Partners Limited in consultation with New Zealand golfing legend Sir Bob Charles. The spectacular par-72 course is the home of Clearwater Golf Club and meanders around an abundance of natural waterways and spring-fed lakes. Set within 465 acres of rural tranquility, the Clearwater Resort also incorporates nine kilometres of walking tracks, all weather tennis courts, a rugby field, a petanque court and numerous fishing streams teeming with Brown and Rainbow Trout.

Clearwater’s Members Lounge is dramatically sited overlooking the 18th green, and is designed to provide an exceptional standard of comfort with unique vistas across sparkling lakes and golfing fairways.. The members bar, outdoor terrace, and a well appointed golf shop are all incorporated within the stylish Warren & Mahoney-designed building which also includes the Peppers Resort Lakes Restaurant and Sprig Bar which are open to the public and visitors.

The par-72 course measures 6,526 metres from the championship tees. Five tee settings provide a challenge for players of all abilities. Clearwater is currently home to the NZ Open Championship until 2013 and combines elements of links golf inspired by the great Scottish courses, with parkland golf more reminiscent of Florida.

The fairways feature Brown-Top and Chewings fescue grasses and the golf course incorporates extensive bunkering and shaping for strategic play and visual appeal. The bunker sand is crushed golden Oamaru stone and is at a depth of at least 300mm per bunker.

Challenging yet enjoyable for players of all levels, the course meanders around a succession of spring-fed lakes and trout-filled streams, with uninterrupted views of the spectacular Southern Alps.

A practice driving range, practice bunkers and several practice putting greens are all part of the complete golf complex.

The course opened to the public on 25 March 2002.
